August 2017: Rolling Hills News Article
Written by Rolling Hills Residents
We’re wishing all of those with August birthdays a very Happy Birthday: Ron L, Jerry L, Kim F, Lynn E, Stella C, Rebecca G, Dennis W, Larry R.
Thanks to Betty M for sponsoring Saturday Bingo in honor of Norman’s birthday in July.
For musical entertainment last month, we had Tim, Prairie Dog Rehab, Laurel and Dianne, Steve, Myron and Frank. All are so wonderful. We always look forward to the live entertainment each month. Some of us also went to see Gary and the Ridgeland Dutchmen who were scheduled for Concert in the Park, but it got moved to the Legion due to weather. They were also very good.
Our pet therapy friends who visited us this last month included Patti and Keota; Paul, Nichole and Josie; Jeff, Barb and Chic; and our newest pet therapy friends Emily and Duke. We always look forward to the pet therapy visits, as many of us used to have dogs and other animals. They always make us smile!
We enjoyed the water balloon toss the other week. It is always fun getting to throw them at the Activity Staff! We had a couple student volunteers there, which was nice. They blew lots of bubbles. The staff found a new way to fill the water balloons very quickly. We couldn’t have asked for a better day to be outside. On another, cooler day, we enjoyed watermelon on the patio and enjoyed looking at the beautiful scenery and flowers that decorate the patio. Thank you to Maryann G’s son for the beautiful raised planter full of flowers and cherry tomato plants.
The ice cream truck continues to be a hit. Everyone listens for the music and knows that a cold, sweet treat is right around the corner. We remember one that used to come around on the Sparta streets. Dixie cups (ice cream with wooden spoon) was one of our favorites.
Some of us went to the Country Café for breakfast. It was very good and they have a full breakfast menu. We also had a fishing trip to Perch Lake. Thank you to Schnitzler Bait Shop for providing the worms. Some of us also went to Walmart, which many of us look forward to.
For religious services, we would like to thank Dianne for leading our Bible Study group, Joan for leading our Rosary group, as well as our Catholic and Wells volunteers. Thank you to the Trinity Lutheran church as well for providing services and Priscilla for leading out Memorial Service. All of our volunteers are wonderful, so we would like to thank all of them for everything that they do for us.
We are enjoying our Music and Art group. It is nice to get together with others and get creative, whether it’s doing a craft or coloring. At our last group we made flowers from plastic spoons to decorate our rooms. They turned out really cute.
Many of us enjoy the monthly summer picnics. We get to sit under a couple big tents now, as our shade trees are gone. Thanks to our housekeeping staff and maintenance staff for helping to set up and take down. The kitchen staff does a wonderful job preparing the picnic meal.
There has been a lot of talk about all the rain and flooding happening. We commented on how the Ben Bikin area is flooded and seeing all of the flooding in towns on the news. We also reminisced on all the things we used to do in the summer time, including swimming, playing baseball, riding bikes, dancing in Bangor and Cataract, babysitting, picnics, playing in the sandbox, and going to the fair.
