Dear Residents, Families and Representatives,
I am writing to inform you that we had one resident test positive for COVID-19 today. We have infection control precautions in place on Birchwood.
We will continue testing residents and staff who may have had contact with any individuals with COVID every 48 hours until we are out of outbreak. We will also test anyone who develops any signs or symptoms. Symptoms of COVID-19 include runny/stuffy nose, sore throat, cough, body aches, diarrhea, vomiting and headache. Residents should notify staff immediately if they are not feeling well. COVID-19 spreads quickly and often without any symptoms in the early stages. Good hand washing, wearing masks and use of hand sanitizer can help prevent the spread of COVID-19.
Residents may still have visitors whenever they wish, regardless of the quarantine measures. Visitors must wear masks, use good hand hygiene and check with staff for other required personal protective equipment that may be needed if a resident is on precautions. Visiting outside in our courtyards, by phone or video visit are safer ways to connect with loved ones while we are in outbreak. We are happy to assist! Visitors at higher risk of serious illness may want to reschedule visits. If visitors have any symptoms of illness they should postpone visiting until they are feeling better and symptoms are gone.
We will be setting up COVID Vaccine clinics for residents and staff as soon as the fall vaccine is available. It has been reformulated to provide better protection against the variants that are now circulating. We also will be encouraging and offering influenza vaccinations as soon as those are available to us. Both COVID and influenza pose a risk of serious illness for seniors and those with medical issues. Staff and visitors are also encouraged to keep vaccinations and boosters up to date to protect those we care for.
I will keep you informed of any new staff or resident cases. We are in outbreak status until we have 14 days with no further staff or resident cases. Please reach out if you have any questions or concerns.
Sincerely,
Linda Smith LNHA
