Update from the Administrator 8-15-23
DATE: 08/15/2023
Dear Residents, Families and Representatives,
I was hoping to write the letter saying that we are out of outbreak status but unfortunately we have had one staff person test positive for COVID-19 today. We were able to drop masks for two days but we will now be resuming wearing of masks for at least 14 days.
We will be testing residents and staff who may have had contact with the positive staff person or that exhibit any signs or symptoms. Symptoms of COVID-19 include runny/stuff nose, sore throat, cough, body aches, diarrhea, vomiting and headache. It can be difficult to know if minor symptoms are “just allergies” or may actually be COVID-19. This is why repeated testing is important if symptoms are present. COVID-19 spreads quickly and often without any symptoms in the early stages. Good hand washing and use of hand sanitizer can help prevent spread of COVID, flu and other illnesses.
Residents may still have visitors whenever they wish, regardless of the quarantine measures. Visitors are encouraged to wear masks and use good hand hygiene. If visitors have any symptoms of illness they should postpone visiting until they are feeling better and symptoms are gone.
We will be setting up COVID Vaccine clinics for residents and staff as soon as the fall vaccine is available. It has been reformulated to provide better protection against the variants that are now circulating. We also will be encouraging and offering influenza vaccinations as soon as those are available to us as well. Both COVID and influenza pose a risk of serious illness for seniors and those with medical issues. Staff and visitors are also encouraged to keep vaccinations and boosters up to date to protect those we care for.
I will keep you informed of any new staff or resident cases. We are in outbreak status until we have 14 days with no further staff or resident cases.
Sincerely,
Linda Smith LNHA
