Dear Residents, Families and Representatives,
We had one staff person test positive for COVID-19 today. The staff person has not worked with residents for several days prior to developing symptoms. The staff person will remain off of work until fully recovered. All resident tests from the past week have been negative. I’m happy to report that all residents previously diagnosed with COVID-19 are now out of isolation and recovering well. Birchwood is off of quarantine, however, we will continue to monitor residents closely and conduct testing until we are 14 days out from our last positive person. Symptoms of COVID-19 include runny/stuffy nose, sore throat, cough, body aches, diarrhea, vomiting and headache. Residents should notify staff immediately if they are not feeling well.
We will continue with mandatory masking for staff and visitors until we are out of outbreak and the level of COVID in the community is coming back down. There has been a steady rise in COVID cases throughout Wisconsin in recent weeks. Preventive measures include good hand washing, surface disinfection, wearing masks and use of hand sanitizer.
Residents may continue to have visitors regardless of the quarantine measures. Visitors must wear masks, use good hand hygiene and check with staff for other required personal protective equipment that may be needed if a resident is on precautions. Visitors should also limit visits to only their resident and maintain distance from other residents and staff.
Visiting outside in our courtyards, by phone or video visit are safer ways to connect with loved ones while we are in outbreak. We are happy to assist when needed! Visitors at higher risk of serious illness may want to reschedule visits until we are out of outbreak. If visitors have any symptoms of illness they should postpone visiting until they are feeling better and symptoms are gone.
I will keep you informed of any new staff or resident cases. We are in outbreak status until we have 14 days with no further staff or resident cases. Please reach out if you have any questions or concerns.
Sincerely,
Linda Smith LNHA
